An explanation has been made in connection with the charges of bribery made in connection with the Waihemo electorate, from which it appears that the whole matter arose out of a misconception. A man did receive a telegram in which an offer was made, but it turns out on inquiry being made that the telegram was not genuine,but was apparently a practical ; joke. Some one having obtained a tele- ! graph form wrote the offer oh it and posted it. and the person who received it thought the telegram was a genuine one until he made inquiry. '
