SUMNER TOWN BOARD.
An ordinary meeting of the Board was held on Tuesday last. Cr. Wheeler apologised for the absence of Cr. Wiggins. The Chairman reported that the case, the Board v P. Wakefield, for unpaid rates, had been heard by the R.M. and decided in the Board's favor. The following correspondence was dealt with:—From the Heathcote Road Board, re removal of slips on Lyttelton road and keeping the said road in repair. The Road Board's offer, on the basis of the offer made by Mr Whiddou, was accepted. From the Geraldine Town "Board, asking for co-operation in getting certain amendments to the Town Districts Bill passed. Granted. From Mr A. Appleby, asking permission to put a substantial wooden hoarding on the esplanade for the purpose of retaining all the sand at present there, and catching and keeping any drift sand that may be blown about. The request was granted, and the j Board undertook to defray the cost of the ' work across the top of Euston street provided the work was commenced from the corner of Mr Newton's fence. A letter from Mr F. Whiddon was also submitted, offering to supply the Board with grit and road metal. It was resolved that he be informed that the Board is not calling for tenders for these articles at present. After iteading the treasurer's statement and Jassing accounts, the meeting adjourned.
