NEW PLYMOUTH.. July 6. The ironworks are still turning out metal quantity. To-day six tons of pig were obtained in two tappings, and four tons more are expected before midnight. Williams and Kettle have been appointed New Zealand agents for Tyser and Company's Colonial Union Steamer Line, and Captain Todd, late of the Northumberland, will be Marine Superintendent ~■--■ ■ WELLINGTON, JulyST Matthews and H. Laing to-night arranged a glove fight for £50 aside and the championship ofNew Zealand. The fight takes place in Wellington on or belore the 20th inst., and will be under the Marquis of Queensberry's rules. Flint, accused of obtaining goods under false pretences, "was remanded to Christchurch. The "rattening" case at the Supreme Court ended in three of the accused being fined £5 each. Four others pleaded not guilty, and a nolle prosequi was entered. Arthur Bean got a year's hard labor for false pretences.

DUNEDIN, July 6. A lively discussion took place at the meeting of the Dunedin Presbytery with regard to the Rev. A. C. Gillies, who recently resigned the charge of the North Dunedin Church and received a certificate, but has since conducted service in a hall in the town. A motion was made that Mr Gillies be asked as to the nature and purpose of these services, but most of the members were of opinion that it would be unwise to stir in the matter, as Mr Gillies

would soon find it necessary to leave, and consideration was postponed till next meeting. At the Supreme Court, Ah You, for wounding a feUow-countryman, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. Thomas Edwards, for unlawfully wounding, was found guilty, and recommended to mercy on the ground of ill-treatment at the hands of prosecutor. The latter, it appeared, when assaulted by prisoner knocked him down. Sentence was deferred.

John Bannatyne, an old, resident at Palmerston, was found dead in bed. Apoplexy was the cause.
