CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, January 26. [Before E. Western* and H. Roberts, Esqs.] Alleged False Pretences.— Margaret Josephine Lloyd, aim* Fanny Mulligan, charged with obtaining wads to the value of £7 11a 61 from W. Stfßbge and Co., on the 81st of January, by means of a forged order, was remanded, on the application of the police, till Friday. Mr McConnel appeared for the accused, who was admitted to bail, herself in £6O and two sureties of £3O each. . , fc'Hor lifting.— Henry Hogwood, charged with stealing tO yards of crinoline material, value 20s, from the shop of Sir 1. H. Bone, Cashel street, on the 26th instant, pleaded guilty, and was sent to gaol for one month, with hard labour, there being three ptevious convictions for larceny recorded against him. Alleged Robbery from the Person.— Stephen Walsh, alias McCarthy, alias Green, and Michael Sheehan, wereoharged with the larceny of £4 or £5, a coat and vest and a handkerchief value £2 19s, from the person of John Adams, on or about the 23rd January, at Christchurch. From the evidence it appeared that Adams came to Christchurch on Saturday last with a cheque for £7, and stayed at the Railway Hotel. He bought a suit of clothes, and next morning found he had about £5 left. He was drinking and had no recollection as to bow he passed the afternoon. On Monday morning, about half-past two, he found himself lying on a vacant section opposite the railway station. He had had the new suit on the previous day, but on awaking the coat and vest were missing, and in fruit place w&f|tn old coat. The two prisoners were seen together on Monday morning in High street about half-past one, and again at nine o’clock,! and Walsh had then a brown paper parcel under his arm. About ten o’clock Walsh went to the Bhop of Mr McCormick,Sydenham,andsoldthecoatand vest for 7s, and the two prisoners were subseq ently seen together at tin Kingston Hotel. The evidence of the prosecutor, Mary McCormick, G. 8. Gee, Constable Sheehan, Jameß Graham, and Detective O’Connor was taken. In answer to the usual charge, Walsh stated that Adams gave him the coat and vest on Sunday evening to sell or pawn. The accused were committed for trial at the next sitting of the Supreme Court.
