At a meeting of the Opposition yesterday, a Committee was appointed for the purpose of submitting a programme for the general elections. Sir P. Jennings intimated that he would be unable to act as leader of the Opposition. It is probable tbat Parliament will be dissolved on Tuesday next. THE WEATHER. Rain fell yesterday throughout the oolony. Received January 23rd, 11 a.m. INTERPROVINCIAL CRICKET. Sydney, January 22. The cricket match New South Wales v Victoria will be commenced on Monday next. Received January 24th, 1 a.m. PEDESTRIANISM. Sydney, January 23. A one hundred and fifty yards race, between Hutchens, the English pedestrian, and Malone, the sprint runner, took place yesterday, and resulted in a victory for the former. Time, 14 3 stbs sec, YACHT RACE. In the Intercolonial yacht race yesterday, on the inside cruree, the Waitangi beat the Janet and Magic by her time allowance. DEATH FROM SMALLPOX. Another death from smallpox occurred at the quarantine station. CONSECRATION OF A BISHOP. Perth, January 23. The Rev. Dr. Gibney was consecrated Bishop of Perth to-day by Cardinal Moran, who met with a splendid reception.
