Massns Bxinntws Bnoe, report on the livestook market for the ;week ending Thursday, January 20tb, aa follows I— At the Addlogton yards on Wednesday good supplies of fat steak were sent forward, while store stock were bnt few in the market. The attendance of buyers and others interested in the proceedings was something above the average. Business was oommenced with the sale of fat cattle to a poor attendance, and throughout was dull in the extreme. All the cattle offered were extremely suitable for the present weather, but the demand was Tery slack, and sales warn made at very low figures. We sold on account of Mr C. Candy a very nioe line of heifers at from £5 to £5 10a per head, and on account Mr Forrester another line at from £3l2s 6d to £4 17a 6d, and on aoooant another client heifers up to £4 10s. Bnt little was offered in the store cattle market. In the dairy cattle market a slightly improved enquiry for good milch cows was to be noticed. The supply of fat sheep was quite an average one, good quality predominating. Fortunately buyers for export were present, and made themselves felt In the matter of ▼alnea advanoingfrom 64 to la per head over last week's prices. We sold, on account Mr Brace, a nice line of light weight crossbred wethers at 6s Id and 6s 2d; on account Mr Mangels, a line of wethers at 6s Id; and for the same own®, a line of good lambs at 6s, on aooonnt Mr Phillips, we sold a line of hia pure bred Southdown ewes at 9s 9d, that being the top quotation of the day; and a line of lambs, on acconnt the same owner, at 6s; for Mr Bryant, we sold a line of crossbred ewes at 6s lOd and 6s. Other lines of sheep sold as follows : Crossbred wethers, primest, 8s to 9s ; light weight wethers, 6s to 7a 3d; crossbred ewes, 4s to 6s 6d; merino wethers, 4s 6d to 6e 3d, being for beat mnttona shade over IJd per lb down to fd, according to the quality. There was bat little doing in the store sheep market. We sold, for a client, a line of two-tootbs at 3s 3d, and another line of better sorts at 4s 3d. We also sold a line of crossbred ewes at 3s 9d. Our entry of fat we sold at {d, 14 aad lid par lb. Hides at late rates. Country Sales—On Thursday last we held a clearing sals of live and dead stock on the farm of Mr Jennings Moffat, Halawell. There was a very large attendance of buyers, both from town and country, and all lots sold at very satisfactory prices. Prices for good merino wethers, however, in several oases showed improvement.
