Constable Gordon telegraphs from Whaogarei to Superintendent Thomson:— Duncan Stewart and Colin Urquhart report the discovery of payable gold at Kauri Mountain, Whangarei between Breamhead and Patana. Tney state they washed one oucce of go'ii from three dkhes on the beach lebw high water mark. There is also a reef whiiib. will run three ounces to the ton .v. private property adjoining. Th»y have wired to the Minister of Minee, Wellington, for protection."
