SELWYN COUNTY COUNCIL.
An ordinary meeting of the above Coua. oil took place yesterday. Present—Meswt D. MoMillan (Chairman), F. Jones, H. W. Peryman, J. D. Enys, J. Bennie, T. H. Anson, W. Dunlop, and B. Westerns. The Chairman stated that the reeoli> tion passed last month, making a special order annexing part ot the Agricultural School p-op' rty to the Waimakariri waiesraoe district would have to be confirmed at the present meeting. A claim had been seat in by L • Bath jen fcr compensation for land taken for a drain in the Halswell district. The Balaia Bead Board hud asked the Council to determine the question of the maintenance of the boundary
road between the EUesmere and Eakais ' districts. The EUesmere Bead Eoird reported that the Selwya bridge was agile m need cf repairs, having been damaged by a traction engine. The Finases 1 Committee had accepted the tente • of Mr A. Swansos for rebuilding ' the Opawa bridge at a cost of JE623 4s 4& The Woolston Town Board had applied let 1 " t'i« coat of repairs and other work si the 1 Heathcote swing bridge. Advices had '! hefca received from the Colonial Treawres I that tha loans applied for by the Council 1 had been granted. The Kimberley ssij | Dai field Domain Boards had recom- ; mended the appointment of Messrs 6. j Hay and E. Smith as members of i their respective Boards. The Avca j Boad Board had requested the Council to j tonfiim the decision of the ratepayers dosing portions of Haider's road fcad the Cinal Reserve road. The Minister of , Mmes had agreed to the Council's request that the balance of the grant from the road | to Browning's Pass might be expended in ; repairs to the road. The Ashburton C maty Council bad agreed to renew the subsidy for Dobbin's Ford for another y«ar. The Lincoln Boad Board had approved of a grant of MO to the Prebbloton Domain Board. A letter hsd bees received from.Mr Staplei, making suggestions for the suppression of the small birds nuisance. Advice bad been leceivei from the Treasury that the payment o£ subsidy awaited confirmation from the Boad Boards as to the amount of rates struck in their districts. Applications had been received for the renewal of most of the existing slaughtering licences, to which there was no, objection. It would be necessary to fix tne fee to be charged for the registration of dogs during the ensuing year. A circular had been received from the Bruce County Council, requesting the support of this Council in a proposal to amend the Hospital and Charitable Institutions Act so as to make each County Council provide for its. own poor, and that the coatribu* tion to Hospitals be in proportion to the coet of each patient. The monthly reports on the water racei had been received* Mr Moffat had asked that his application for water power for the miU might be altered from D&rfield to Kirwee. Mr Mcllra i h had written asking for an extension of time for clearing the races through his land. A communication bad been received from the county solicitor asking for further instructions in the matter of the interpretation of the deed of covenant ba* tween Sir John Hall and iho Council relative to the water races through his land. The Council, on the motion of Mesne, Pjekyman and Wxstxhba, confirmed the special order aiuexing part of the Lincoln Agricultural School property to the WsS<* makariri water-race district. I It was decided that steps be taken, under legal advice, to submit Mr Bathjen'e claim* to arbitration. The question of the EUesmere Eakaia districts' bound»ry road from Sel* wyn to Dunsatdel was referred t 3 a Com* mittce to obtain evidence concerning it and report to the Council. Tie matter of repair? to the Selwya bridge was referred to the Commits*® already appointed. It was agreed to vote to the Woolsto* Towr Board the sum of £2s for repairs to the Heathcote swing bridge.
