NEW SOUTH WALES TEAM.
AN EXPLANATION.

At a meeting to-night of the Hawke's Bay Rngby Union the following telegram was read from the New South Wales football team :—" Tour telegram yesterday caused us needless pain. You have judged ne most unfairly, and jumped at a conclusion you had no right to. We play Wei* lington Friday, and wired for **rms for Saturday's match inetead of Monday, and received your reply. We think an apology, due for the insult yotf have" offered car Union. If such be forthcoming, we will accept your error as a misunderstanding, and will expect to play you on Saturday. We are sorry yon thought so badly of us. Wire reply Occidental Hotel, Wellington. —McAbthttb."
The following reply was resolved to be sent to-morrow:•—••* Your telegram was as follows:—'What will yon guarantee for match Saturday if we play you instead Wellington." Your telegram now quite removes the impression which your former telegram created, and we are glad the expressions used in the former telegram are' explained satisfactorily, and that the construction we placed on your telegram not intended to be conveyed. We sball therefore be happy to play you on Saturday. Oar guarantee of expenses remain as before, £20. Pleaee urge Union Company to despatch eteamer early on Friday so as to arrive not later than noon on Saturday. We shall be able to detain the steamer on Saturday night to enable you to dine with us."
