FATAL ACCIDENT.
An accident, which unfortunately proved fatal in its results, occurred at a qaajter past two yesterday on the Eiocartoo road, to a man in the employ of Mr T. Bowley baker, of Crescent road, Knightstowal TW spot where the accident occurred is opposite the «otbaga of the caretaker of theAcclimatisation Society's garden*. The man was driving Mr Bowleg oarfc along the road ia the diwotio* of Biooarton, and by tome means orothe* dropped the reine on to the horse'e b»ek ' Hβ reached over the hone to recover them, and the animal becoming restive.' ran the cartwheel into the water-table alongside the road. The jork threw the man heavily on to the footptth. and the cartwheel, as it bounced out of thoonanneLcame down upon his body. The man got up, and staggered for a few yards, and .then fell. The horse continued along th# footpath for about two chains, andtht& crossed on to the road again, upeottier itself and the cart also. Aaeistanoe ia tSL persons of three young College •tudaafe* was at hand, and they qaiokly went to the man's nelp. On it being found thttkfr was seriously injured, a boy who wu riding put was despatched to the Potto* Station for the ambulance stretcher, bofc in the meantime a stretcher from the Hospital was sent up. and the poor fellow brought in. On his reaching the Hospital, however, it was found that life wae extinct. On further inquiries being nuulft it was ascertained that the deeeawd'o name wae Stephen Middleborongh. He waa a tout thirty yean of age, and wae unmarried. An inquest will be held at 11.30 a,m. on Saturday, at the Hoepfoi.
