The ordinary monthly meeting of this Board was held on August 6th. Present, oil members. Sir Richard Westenra In the chair. The Snrveyor'e report was read and ooubidered. The following correspoudcnoe was read:—From the Spring*, EUeemere, and Conr.'enay Bond Boards, deoliniog to co-operate in urging upon the Government the nocesuty for the erection of a, traffic bridge over the Solwyn, at the South line railway crossing. Prem Mr D. MoSHllan, M.H X., iv reply to the Board's letter on the same subject, statiug that ha had placed the matter before the Minister of Public Works, bnt had failed in his endeavor to have* snm placed on the Estimates for tho purpose of carrying oat the work relerred to. From the Ellesmero Eoad Board, utitiDir that Mr Kaudall complained that hie property in the EUesmere road district had been injured through the Uakate Rood Board's aotiou in diverting; storm water from its natural course. It was showa that Mr KandaU is nuder a misapprehension on this tmbject. From. , the Minister of Publio Works, informing the Board that the Qovernment is willing to have a road surveyed alongside of the railway from Selwyn to> Bankside, provided the Board will contribute onehalf of the coat ot sarvty. It was deoided that the Board would inonr so expenditure in oouueetion with the proposed road until a proper understanding is arrived.at, that it shall be deilt withas a boundary road between the Kakaia and Ellesmero road distriote. From Mr T. Wddte complaining that the new storm-water crossing atThome's corner prevented acoess 10 hia premises daring the recent heavy rains. Tue surveyor w»* instructed to give Mr laddie notice to remove hi* verandah which encroaches on tho road and prevents proper drainage at the plaae comylalnei if. From Mr B. M. cotton asking the Board to have formed and metalled about six chains of tbe> roadleadingtohißhnildlugsin Wairiri valley. Deferred till next meeting. From Mr J. Thwaltw calling attention to damage done by storm water scouring the Downs road fronting lite eeotion. It was deoided that members wonld accompany the surveyor over the Do wot road and report to the next meeting what improvements ar» aeeessary. From Mr Qoldunith, asking for improvements on Lee's road. Deferred, from Mr Duncan, asking for a culvert to be pat across Daecan's road; also complaining of cattle straying: on roads near his property. Referred to the dor* veyor. From Mr G. H. Browo, complaining; of cattle straying on roods near Duntandel. xb» Snrveyor stated that he had oalled the attention of the ranger to this complaint. The question ot dispensing with the cattle rangera and trying mom other means of suppressing the stray cattle nuisance was dUousned. It was decided to kee> the rangers on for the present, and to prosecute persone who wake a practice of allowing their cattle or pigs to stray on the roods, aleo persons found herding oattle or cheep on the road*. JUr John Cordy waited on the Board, and requested to have the cuttings pat in order on tho roods running down Bakaiaterrace to his run. Granted. The following works were authorised, viz.—ehingling six ohains on Meffoy's rood j improTementaon the road leading to Mr Bealey'• woolshed, below Bakaia, terrace, supplying 500 yards of shingle for repair* on DunsanefoT road, 300 yards ou Duncan a road, 800 yards on YTairiri road, and 400 yards on Steventoa road; re-pointing the parapeteand other small repairs on several of the district bridge*. I* was decided that a drain should be eat on the> north side of Dnnsandel road, opposite the pound paddock to carry off the etonn water, which Spreads over tho rood in that locality. It wait arranged that members of the Beard should meet the Surveyor at the river cro.rings on Hartnell's and SiU'e road, and decide npoa the best means of making the crossing* passable. s Mr Wright complained of the practice i>l throw* in* tussocks and large stones off the formation on to the unformed portions on the side* of tfc» roads. Applications for water supyliee (torn Messrs Weetenra Brothers. J. Duncan and J. Caughey were granted. The pay-eheet, amountliwr to £17910s 6d, was pasned. After transacting other routine business, the Board adjourned.
