JEWELLERY ROBBERY.
A Press Aesociation telegram from Wellington, received yesterday afternoon, states that the police there have received information that jewellery to the value of JBISO was stolen last wetk from a gentleman staying in a hotel in Christchurch, said to be the son of the Earl of Leinster. On making inquiries we learn that the gentleman referred to is a Mr Gerald Purcell Fitzgerald, who is stated to be a nephew of the Duke of Leinster. He had been staying at the Commercial Hotel, but has for some days been away. A case containing jewellery to the value, it is believed, of between £100 and £150, was taken from a portmanteau in Mr Fitzgerald's room on Friday night last. Uatil the owner's return the precise value of the articles stolen cannot be ascertained. The police have not yet been able to get a clue to the perpetrator of the robbery.
