AUCKLAND, September 14. An unoccupied ten-roomed house at Coromandel, belonging to Charles King, Auckland, was destroyed by fire this morning. The insurances are unknown. An inquiry will probably be held. • The inquest on the body of King, -Wed on the railway last night, was adjorned till to-morrow at the request of the police, who wish to make a searching inquiry into the circumstances, especially of danger to the public at that part of the line. The Mines Department have written, refusing to aid to introduce appliances for the successful treatment of refractory ores for gold and silver. _._-—• Mr W. H- Adams, Manager of the Wairongo—_i battery, proceeds to San Francisco to inspect new appliances in use at California mines for gold and silver saving purposes, with a view to their introduction here. - —, A resident at Wade named Barron dropped dead to-day. It is stated he had been drinking heavily. WRLLINGION, September 14. A esse was heard at the B.M. Court today, in which Mr A. Young sued taptam Kuss-1, President of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club, for .£l6. Mr Young took over the horses Poet and Minerva from Mr Bate at a time when the forfeit money was due on them to several clubs under protest. I He handed over cheques for the amount, to he held, as he alleged, pending the decision of the Canterbury Chto on the question. The latter gave, it in hisfavor, aad the Wellington Clubs gave _back the cheques. The Napier Club declined to do so, and Mr Young sued them. Jubilee year, and there are people who! deserve that honor better thaa he does, and will be able to accept ooncomitant responsibilities, and discharge the duties better than he could. September 14. l he Supreme Court continued its sitting to-day on the divorce case Edward John Lewis v Margaret Lewis and Bulling. The jury found th- both petitioner and respondent had committed adultery. A decree has not yet been asked for. The seduction case, Taylor v Woolfe, has been on all day. The evidence ia not concluded.
Several important alluvial gild finds have been made between the Hokitika and Arahura rivers during the last week or so . _ _ DUNEDIN, September 14. A fire at Caversbam destroyed two bouses belonging to Walter tioodall. They were insured in the Colonial for J8275.
