RIVER BOARD.
; « , An ordinary meeting ot the South Waimakar—i River Board was held yesterday afternoon, at two o'clock. Present—Mr F. Jones (Chairman), and Messrs B. M Taylor, W. Peryman, H. Crooks, and S. P. Andrews.
An apology was accepted for the-bsenoe of Mr R. W. England. The Overseer reported that tbe willow and tree planting' for the season had been completed. There had been 11,600 silver poplar trees planted, at a cost of £54, 95; 3800 having been planted at the lower works, and7,Booat the upper; 1700 pine trees have been planted at the upper works, at a cost of £4 17s lid; 1400 trees have been transplanted in the nursery. The cost for willow planting between the groins above No. 14 embankment was J829 16s. There had been two freshets in the river in August, but no damage had beedone to the works. The trees to be planted by Mr Acton Adams will not interfere with the south bank ia any way. The C__——an stated he had arranged for the necesrary seed for the Overseer to sow. The Overseer intended to limit bis requirements to three bands, whioh he found stood the drought.of last summer the best, vi-, cupreaat— macrocarpa, pinna insignia, ahd blue gum. Mr Tr—eaven wrote, offering to lease a portion of the river bed at £2 10s per annum. . ,
The Overseer—as instructed to make tbe necessary application to tbe Waste Lands Beard for the Crown grants of this and other reserves.
Messrs Hay and McL—lan, B—_berlev, wrote, asking the Board to reduce their rent, as their reserve was being washed away. The Overseer was instructed to report upon the value of tbe land. A letter was read from the Educational Reserves offioe, Invercargill, asking for information re the o—istraction of groins. Supplied. The Spreydon Boad Board wrote, forwarding particulars of rates requested to be written off.
Mr Pxb~_ah gave notice of motion for next meeting, to the effect tbat unless local bodies furnished accounts annually they should not be acknowledged. In reply to the Chairman, the Ovu-s—w stated the rabbits were now well under control, and could be kept under so long as the leasehold reserves were open to sportsmen. Accounts to the amount of .£9B 10s lid were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
