JohnCromie, a well-to-do-farmer residing in the King-down district, was —urged to-day with the larceny of a portmanteau belonging to a young man named F. W. Brut-mood. Mr Broham conducted the prosecution for the police, and Mr Perry defended the accused. The case was rather a peculiar one. At the outset Mr Perry objected to the jurisdiction cf tbe Court, •s the portmanteau and the clothing it contained were of the value of £10. He ■!*> objected to the Court dealing summarily with the case, and requested that the depositions of sll the witnesses be taken.
