BRIDEGROOM'S GUIDE.
At a large and fashionable church, sot a handled miles from Wilton place (eajs Truth) livea a careful and considerate Shepherd, who is moat anxious for the spiritual and the worldly welfare of those about to enter the holy estate of matrimony under hie auspices. The aspiring
bridegroom en Inquiring at the tenures receives a nicely, got-op "bill of fare," much resembling what lie would have handed to him on entering the Cafe Boyal or similar resorts. On perusal* h* leant* that he can have • marriage after banns for 12g., or a marriage by license for 15e. "N.B.—The above fees only are legally demanded," says the carte de jour; bnt then comes a nice red line, and the magic words: " When these fees are not adhered to, the following payments axe customary":— To the Vicar Amount entirely optional. (We have heard this expressed in other, but not more persuasive, words.)
The necessity for the red cloth and awning is left entirely to the discretion cf those who arrange for the marriage, and will not be supplied unless specially ordered.
An unassuming black line here catches the bridegroom's eye, and he staggers back as he finds that dinners specially ordered— no, I mean mean marriages celebrated after neon—cost double all the above fees, and an addition is made this time in favor of the organ-blower, who receives 53. Tbe philanthropy and kind-heartedness of the parish shepherd is portrayed in the concluding paragraph: "Where the use of the awning is required, persons are requested to apply to Mr —, parish clerk; tor flowers, to Mr ——, of ; and for printing of special hymns" [we suppose, composed by the happy! bridegroom] "to , of .**
