They comprised two letters from the AgentGeneral, with enclosures relating to the Indian railways, but no new points are brought out A return was presented to Parliament to-day, on the motion of Mr Ballance, showing the amount* paid to each of the direct Steamship Companies, by way of bonus and subsidies for carriage of mails during the year 1885, The New Zealand Shipping Company received £12,760 14s 8d subsidy; .£7885 bonus,-and .£936 remitted fight dues; total, £21,581 14* Bd. The $haw, Savill and Albion Company received £49 2s 8d for carriage of mails at Id per letter, and £1040 light dues remitted; total, JBIOB9 2s 6d. O { I rant to cay that Mr Ballance is confined w»bis house to-day through illness, but it is heped he will he all right in a day •rtwo. j I learn from the Premier that his Bepresentation Bill will be circulated to-morrow.
