Since the departure of the last 'Fnsco mail business in all departments has been ouiet. as v usual at this time of the year. The fact that the close of J one is the end of the financial half year has intended the dulness which has prevailed. With the opening of the present month some improvement was lookedfor,but business has fallen ehorfc of expectationa,and thepurehases of the trade have been of a gortingm> nature and for immediate requirements only. Payments falling due on the 4th were, ac a rule, promptly met. Tlie Customs revenue collected at Chratchuroli turin? the month of June was .£17,9916s 4d, aa against -£21,3617s 8d for the corresponding month last year. Amongst the foreign arrivals may be noted the direct steam iner Tongariro and ship Loch Awe, from London. Old eeason's teas have noshed at a slight concession on late prices, on account of the expected arrival of the as. Tamsui, which Bteamer has put in her appearance from Poo chow with the first cargo of new season's teas. Sufficient tame ias not elapsed to pronounce upon the various samples and values. Sugars have continued selling .at last quotation*, and stocks have been_ augmented by the arrival of the Thurso, [com Mauritius. Tobaccoes have met with fair sales at agents' rates. Sardines at 8a 6d and Se 3d for halves and quarters respectively. Salmon scarce, with a limited demand. Vestas have seen good business—looo's 65a to 66a, plaids 4s 3d. Bottled ale and stent have changed hands in retail parcels at usual prices. The several agents of brandy report ordinary business at usual rates. Scotch whisky at from 6s to 9a 1.8., has secured the bulk of the spirit trade; J.D.KZ. Geneva has been placed in parcels. Case Old Tom has alpo met with fair salee. Tho agents for Kilmarnock, Danville's and Lochiel report regular trade sales. Port wine has been in fair demand- Sherry has been almost neglec.ed. Bales of claret and champagne nominal. Heavy freight lines, such as salt, whitmg, and soda crystals have been all in full supply, at prices favoring buyers. Fencing win* has sold slowly, the demand being chiefly for No. 8.
