THE INSPECTOR OF LUNATIC ASYLUMS.
WELLINGTON, July 1. Papers were laid on the table to-night regarding the appointment of Dr. Maesrregor as Inipeofor of Lunatic Asylums. The first is ga letter from Dr. Grabham to the Government, recommending that Ura. Neill and Levinge be aopointed Inppectora at salaries of £750 each, and be also Superintendents of the SeaolifE and Wellington Asylums respectively, as the beat qualified men in the colony. Iα a second letter Dr. IGrabhana. further advises that if this be done, at deputy inspectors may be dispensed with and finally recon: mends that Dr. Neill be appointed for the South Island, as Inspector, at £800; and Dr. teving*. for t>ie North Island, at £700. This is dated lOch November. Next d»y the Colonial Secretary telegraphed to Dr. Macgregor offering him the appointment of Inspector for the whole colony on a three years engagement at the same salary ac yr. Grabham, viz., ÜBI2OO and traveling expenses. Dr. Bfocgregor replied accepting, and was appointed at once.
