All the above horses are entered for the Champavne Stakes, 1887, with the exception of Falconet. Nelly Moore filly. Sweet Oioily Colt, and JEsay <j3Jn<aeqa colt:.
uMiUiimi [Per e.s. Waiiarspa at Auckland. ] SYDNEY, April 30. The Eandwick race meeting bo far has been, decidedly aocceesfnl in respect to the weather, attendance, and racing. The Cup race was a splendid one, and ft grand Aeld started. Nelson -was made the favorite Tip to the last moment, on the strength of bis running in the Autumn Stakes, but he failed to justify the position. He ran well forward for a mile and a half, and then suddenly dropped away, and finally finished ninth. Cerise and Blue ran a splendid race, and came with a grand rush at the finish, winning in the fastest time yet recorded in the race. Mr Oxenham, her owner, is said to have won eleven or twelve thousand pounds. The unemployed are dissatisfied with the wages paid at the relief works, and are again agitating. A serious collision occurred on the Paramatta river yesterday evening. The steamer Paramatta was cut down to the water's edge, but the passengers and crew wer6 rescued. Holt has been committed oo a further charge of falsifying certain accounts with the Bank of New Zealand. MELBOUENB. James Lander, one of the imprisoned miners, was rescued on Wednesday night, after being confined in Duke's Consols mine fourteen hours. He was unhurt. BBISBANE. Mr Hallard, Chief Engineer of Bailways, Central District, has resigned, owing to being mixed up with railway contractors. It has been resolved to wind up the Central Queensland Meat Company at Bockhampton. ADELAIDE. The Board appointed to enquire into the recent railway accident find it was entirely caused by the negligence of the pointsman, Forrest, and the aignniwiftfi wa s also grossly negligent. Ernest Minehin, Chief Teller of the National Bank, has been arrested for the embezzlement of £1000. The President of the Chamber of Commerce, at the annual meeting, epoke very hopefully of the prospects of the colony, and deprecated the absurd representations which have gone abroad. j
