KAIAPOI.
The fortnightly meeting was held on rue«day. Present — The Mayor (Mr Moose), Crs. Blakeley,. Simpson, Wearing, May; Humpherys, Brighting, and Hicks. A letter was read from Eyreton Boad Board directing attention to the action of the Government in raising a dam of stone across Stewart , B Gully at the railway bridge, and stating that Messrs Elder, Evans, and P&ahby were appointed to confer with the Counoil. It was resolved that Cr. Wearing, Homphexjx, and the Works Committee confer with the deputation. A list of cattle impounded by the Sanger was- received. Toe Sorreyor reported the necessity for raising the kerbing on the bridge, which was agreed to. He also recommended payment for asphalting, which was passed. An account from Salter and Sfr&nn, solicitors, for re-
vising by-laws was referred to the Finance Committee. Cr. Okam, Chairman Works Committee, reported on clearing the drains in the borough. It was resolved, on motion of Cr. Sikpsor, seconded'by Cr. BBieHTOTo— v That tenders be invHed for cltorisg the drains.** The receipts for the fortnight were £18 9a; present overdraft, £786 1% 3d. Accbuntß, JBIOO 11s 6d, were passed for payment.. It was resolved that iron posts oe placed at the entranoe to the wheel gaords of the bridge, and the question of tamng the bridge was referred to the Works Committee. Two tenders were opened for excavating the youths'bathing place and depositing the material where required—one , is23, the other USA 10a. After a lengthy discussion, it was decided to decline to accept either tender, or to go on with the woxk, Crs. Wearing and Blakely being the only advocates for its prosecution. Leave of absence was granted to the Mayor for three weeks. The Council then adjourned.
