THANKS.

TQ TKB BDXTOB OF TKX PKKBS. Sib,—Would you kindly allow mc through the columns of your journal to conyey my sincere thanks not only to hie Eminence Cardinal Horan and the pre* latee who accompanied him, but also to the thousands that assembled yesterday at Mount Magdala to witness the ceremony of the laying of the foundation stone of the first Magdalen Asylum in New Zealand.

I am also very grateful for tke warm encouragement given mc in the great undertaking now before the people, and trust that very soon we shall be able to proceed with the erection of the Asylum I long to see completed. Permit mc likewise to record publicly my sentiments of sincere gratitude to the several ladies and gentlemen of this city and other places who have sent mc - bo many letters of congratulation on the foundation of the Magdalen. I regret that the variety of duties which rested on mc in making preparation for the reception of his Eminence forced mc to omit giving a special invitation to the large number of the citizens of Christcfcnrcb -who welcome in our midst the work inaugurated yesterday. Be good enough to notice that the £200 which were laid on the stone, as stated in this morning's Press, refer to the amount received in that particular spot of the assembled multitude, as I received myself close on .£BOO., which, coupled with the above, and with the returns of some collectors whom I have not yet been able to meet, will bring the amount, I hope, considerably over one thousand pounds (£1000). With many thanks for the advocaoy of y»ur journal,—Tours, &0., L. M. GINATT, S.M., Miss. Beet. Christchurcb, February 19th.
