As tbe little steamer Elsie was on her way from Motueka to Nelson, and when about seven miles off the land, Captain Johnson noticed a boat bottom up, and a man shouting at the top of his voice. On making for the boat it was found to be Mr Deck, of Motueka. who stated that he had been ia that position sixteen hours, during whir hhe had drifted five miles. Mr Deck haying been got on board with difficulty, owing to his Seiner unable to c%tch the line thrown to him, his hands being numbed, was immediately attended to, and is now little the worse for his long immersion. The inquest on the body of Holljman, the victim of the late Nile street bridge accident was partially heard to day, and is now adjourned until Monday. TIMAEU, February 19. The annual meeting of the Timaru Gas Company was held to-night, when a dividend of 15 per cent, per annum was declared. The number of consumers continues to increase, and the Company contemplate reducing the price of gas at an early date. .
