MR BURNETT'S MISSION.

Anether large meeting was held rathe Theatre B*yal last evening. The Bey; F. W. Mtt presided. Mr Burnett, who: on rieing to address the meeting, was loudly cheered, spoke tulogietically of the services rendered by Mr leitt and others in the Temperance cause in eeveral parfsof the colony, and then went on to deliver;hie lecture on "Father Matthew, Ireland a greatest social reformer." Father Matthew took the pledge fer the good ef Ireland, aad in the first twelve months of his Temperance mission 150,000 pledges were taken. In less than fire years 5,000,000 were takes. He went over to Scotland and took upwards of 1.0t0.000 pledges. In Kngland he was Very successful, and in America he took 8,000,000 pledges. The struggles of the great reformer were graphically described, and his successes were eloquently spoken of. At the close of the lecture Mr Burnett announced that he wanted fifty ladies to volunteer to go forth to distribute handbills throughout the suburbs 1 Christchnrch and to do other mission wort. Names of ladies willing to assist will be received at Mr J.T. Smith's, Caehel street* on or before Monday. This evening agree*, mass neeting will be held on the Market Besarve, when Mr Burnett, whoee voice is greatly improved, will deliver a special addrajs to the working' classes. A list of Mr Burnett'* Sabbath services appears in another column.
