GRAIN AND PRODUCE.
The position of this market is much thesame as at the date of our last monthly report. There has been a fair demand for the finer qualities of winter wheat, but values are a shade lower than they were a month, in spite of the possibility of a general war in Eastern Europe—a prospect which could not havefailedtoaddan element of strength. ,to the market a few years ago. Owing to the strong demand which has prevailed, throughout the month for chick feed the po:>rer qualities of milling are being eagerly competed for For oats there has been little demand of late, but as stocks locally are hot large no material change in value has takenplace. Prices in Sydney are firmer, and largeordershave been placed at the Bluff within the past week. Barley has been extremely dull, in fact in malting there has been nothing doing, while feed has only been moved with great difficulty. The scarcity of chickwheat, however, should, operate favorably oh this line. Although the season for grass seed is practically over small parcels are still changing hands. Potatoes, have been dropping in value throughout the month, and quotations are almost nominal, the season being so far advanced. Butter is again firmer owing to a steady Australian demand, and as stocks have not accumulated, prices have advanced. Old oheese is now out of the market, and new is offering freely, but is not yet fit for export. In hams and bacod there has been a fair trade passing. The following are tiie quotations of the day:-?
