ROAD BOARDS AND WATER-RACES.
TO THB BDITOB OF TBM PBJtSS. Sib,—The Coortenay Boad Board at its last meeting declined to Tote any more of its funds for the water-raoe. This Iβ not to be wondered at, for if there is to be a rate levied on the district, it Iβ but natural , that the Boad Board should prefer to let it be raised for the expreee purpose of the water-race rather than be forced to raise one themselves. Bat the ratepayers will be doubly grateful to the Board if it takes care bo to husband its funds and economise : its expenditure as to make a road rate un- : necessary for years to come. Farmers , really look with alarm at the advertise- ! mente for fresh works in every direction. While the Boad Board continues to keep its outlay, within the limits of its income, it will deserve and receive the thanks of the residents. It is the last straw that breaks the camel's back. It would not take many rates nor heavy ones to break . the backs of the equally patient and over* ;' burdened farmers of Canterbury. Yours, Ac, AoBUCOLA.
