CUST.

The annual meeting wae held on the sth June. Preeent— Mr A. Hunter (Chairman) and all the members. The Chairman said that a temporary transfer had been granted from Mr Morgan to Mr Bamsey of the license of the Cast Hotel, and that Mr Bamsey now applied fora permanent transfer of the license. Sergeant Scott said that enquiries had been made in regard to Mr Ramsey's character and fitness to hold the license with very satisfactory results, bat with regard to the hotel some of the bedrooms were small and not up to modern requirements. The Chairman said that he had inspected the hotel and found the bedrooms small; also the billiard-room, and considered that it required very great alterations and improvements, but could not see how any improvement could be made in the present building, but thought itwould be better to pull down a good part of the present building and rebuild it. It was I decided to grant the license,, subject to extensive additions and improvements i being made in the hotel to the satisfaction of the Committee, within the next six [ months. MrCoopermoved—"Thatthe Comj mittee decide that the cost of the additions and improvements to the hotel be not lees than £500." Seconded by Mr Atkinson. Mr Horrell moved as an amendment—" That no sum be mentioned as to cost of improvement/ Mr Haesall moved as a further amendment—" That £400 be substituted for £500." Neither of the amendments were seconded. The Chair- | man put the motion, when two voted for it and two against. The Chairman voted against the motion and declared it lost, aad pointed out that the local option poll taken on the Ist of June gave the ComI mittee power to grant another license in the district, and should the present proprietors not make the necessary alterations in the hotel, the Committee may favorably consider any application that may be made for another license; at the same time he thought that the question of costs might be left to the proprietors of the hotel, provided the plane to be submitted were of a satisfactory character. Mr Haesall moved—"That Mr Bamsey be requested to furnish plans of the proposed additions and improvements to the hotel in shtweeks from date." Seconded by Mr Horrell and carried.

Itwas decided that a special meeting to consider the plane be held on the 17th July, at noon.
