LYTTELTON.
The fortnightly meeting of this Council was held on Monday evening. Present— His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Crs. McDonald, Stinson, Fyfe, Dimond, All wright. Outward correspondence read. Inward correspondence read, viz.:—From Lyttelton Harbor Board, re the accumulation} of stagnant water between the new wharf and abed. It wae resolved that the matter be referred to the Chairman of the Harbor Board. From the Chairman of the Tffij%pni Borough Council, re the Militia Act. The Mayok stated that a complaint had been made by neighbours that there was a house of ill fame in the Brenchley road, snd that he (the Mayor) had ref erred the matter to the police, who would take the necessary steps to remedy the evil. From sundry persons, re etorm water from the hills on the Sumner road, which was likely to damage properly. Besolved that the complainants be informed that the Council have taken the necessary steps to conserve the etonn water. Letter from Mr Sowden, Quarter-Master-Sergeant in the* Land Artillery Corps, trying for the use of the Council's upstairs room for the purpose of storing arms and accoutrements for the use of hie corps. It was resolved that the application be granted/conditionally that the Insurance Company interested makes no objection. Beport from Foreman of Works read, and resolved—That Mr Potts be written to and invite his co-operation in planting trees on, the ground between the Governor's Bay road and the baths. The purchase of African box thorns was sanctioned, to be nlanted on the Sumner road. Accounts amounting to J8286 Sβ lid were passed for uavment Be building by-law. tome present of books he gave to the Colonists' Hall Library." Carried unanimously. Leave of absence was granted to Mr AllwrUjht for the session. L-ave of absence waa also granted to Cw. Gar*orth and Beed. The Council then adjourned.
