ST. PATRICK'S DAY.
'A meeting of gentlemen interested in ■making arrangements for the proper ob- ! servanoe of St. Patrick's Day was held last sight at the Corn Exchange. There was a good attendance, and Mr B. Aherne was ] voted to the chair. He stated that the meeting had been called by circular, and -called upon the convener to explain. j Mr McNaxaba said there was a feeling j among a few gentlemen that the ocuning 17th of March ought not to be let pass without proper celebration. He hoped it would be understood that in this .they wished to act as Irishmenonly.withdut the least tinge of sectarianism. He trusted the idea would be taken up in that spirit, and that the thing would, be done on as broad a base as possible, giving a hearty welcome to all who should choose to come, and "»«fa'"g it representative of all classes. A banquet had been suggested, and inquiries had ;".' been made as to getting the use of the ~ HaIL This was found to be % and the Foresters* Hall was Least moved —"That St. Patrick's Day be celebrated by a banquet in Christchurch, and that it be carried out on a broad basis." This was seconded by Mr J. McNaxaba, and was carried unani- .'"' mously. '

Leahy were appointed hon. sees, to the General Committee, with Messrs Aherne, Blake, Sellars, and Burke to form a Sub-Committee for Christchurch, and Messrs Mehallam, Dunn and Daly for Lyttelton. j > The next general meeting was fixed for i 7.30 p.m. on March 3rd, at a place to be j > advertised. > The meeting then adjourned.
