THE TEMPERANCE HOTEL.

TO TUB IDITOB OT THB FBZSB. Sib, —. The financial position of the Temperance Hotel is a discredit to all the Temperance Societies in the place. With a desire of doing some practical good, a mu&ber of gentlemen took shares inthie undertaking, not expecting to see much, if any, interest for their money. Most of these gentlemen do not profess to be total abstainers; at any rate, they dp not belong to the people who are always glorifying themselves and abusing their neighbors because they de not agree with them as to total abstinence. Many of them-believe in total abstinence, but they are in every eenee of the word temperate men; They have been allowed to struggle on with a toQ limited capital, and although they have erected a fine building arid established a hotel on principles appreciated by a large number of people, they must now give up the enterprise for want of sufficient support. What are the Temperance Societies about ? Is practical work like this beneath them P or are all their energies expended on platform «ratory P If the Temperance Societies were t» come forward to the rescue, I have nadoubt the shareholders in the Temperance Hotel would give their chares up for nothing, and a new management with larger funds might be initiated. Is not this plan worth the consideration of Temperance men who mean business P If they do not bestir themselves, probably this large hotel will fall into the hands of a publican.
