TRADES AND LABOR CONGRESS.

The following were the delegates present at the Trades and Labor Congress:— Otago Trades and Labor Council, Messrs C. J. Thorn and T. C. Farnie, M.A. j Auckland Council, Mr H. W. Farnall; Christchurch Working Men's Political Association, Mr C. J. Baej New Zealand Protection Association, Messrs A. G. Howland, B. L. McClenahan, and D. Bellhouse; Timaru Political Seform Association, Mr G. Kimber; Caversham Branch of the Otago Trades and Labor Council, Messrs J. Welle and E. Eutherford; Christchurch Branch of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters, &c., Mr G. Miller; Timaru Branch, Mr E. Harvey ; Port Chalmers Branch of the New Zealand Seamen'e Union, Mr G. P. Dodds ; Wellington Branch, Mr C. Bradley; Otago Society of Operative Bootmakers, Messrs B. Ferguson and J. Marshall; Otago Engine-drivers' and Firemen's Association, Messrs E. Wilson and J. Aris; Dunedin Branch of Amalgamated Society of Engineers, Mr J. Walker; Auckland Branch, Mr Gouch; Dunedin Branch of Amalgamated Society of Journeymen Tailors, Mr H. Hogg; Dunedin Lumpers' Union, Mr Holgate; Lyttelton Lumpers' Union, Mr H. Allwright, M.HJS., W. F. Barnes, and E. W. Griffiths; Auckland Bricklayers' Laborers' Society, MrTobin; Wellington Early Closing Association and Lumperb* Union, Mr C. Bradley. The Congress opened its sittings to-day. There were twenty-seven delegates present, amongst them Mr Allwright, M.H.E., who is one of the representatives of the Lyttelton Lumpers* Union. Mr C. J. Tnom, of Dunedin, occupied the chair, and in his opening address urged that the organisation might obtain control of the labor agencies at present carried on by the Government. Mr Thorn was elected President, and Mr Aris, of Dunedin, Secretary*. The other officers will be elected after a constitution is drafted, for' which purpose a Committee was appointed. The sitting is being continued this evening. The Trades Congress, to-night, considered the draft constitution brought up by the Committee, and resolved to finish its consideration to-morrow. The principal office-bearers were appointed from the Dunedin members for reasons of convenience and economy. An Executive and Parliamentary Committee will be appointed. The President, Mr Thorn, delivered a formal address of come length.
