In the Nenthorn murder case two jurors were challenged by Fitzgerald and one on behalf of each of the other prisorers. The Crown ordered five other jurors to stand aside. The case is likely to occupy two days. The Land Board inquiry into the alleged dummyism at Waitahuna in Tuapeka county has been fixed for the 29th inst. It has been decided to set aside two days for the fire brigades' demonstration at the end of this month, owing to the large number of teams which have entered. A,tournament for the draughts championship of the Australasian colonies was begun to-day. There are fourteen competitors. There is only one representative from Australia, a Sydney player, though five or six were expected. The Nenthome murder case will be continued to-morrow. At the Harbor Board to-day a resolution was carried t© instruct the Engineer to employ the big dredge on the bar as much as possible, and to increase the number of hands or the hours of labor, as he thought necessary. It was stated that in a year the dredge had only worked thirty daye on the bar. At the invitation of the Otago Manufacturers' Association the Government have deputed Mr Federli to visit this district.
