SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The usual monthly meeting of the West Christchurch Committee was held on Wednesday, at 7.80 p.m. Present—Mr F. G-. Hawley, in the chair, Messrs Alfrey, Bilfecliff, Bowden, Cooper, and Bundle. The Head Master's letter was then conaidexed. It etated the average attendance last week to have been 1029 in the main school and 171 in the side school. Some small matters would require attention during the approaching vacation, which the Visiting Committee was empowered to see to, and the caretaker was to be allowed assistance to scrub the school. Attention was drawn to the swampy state of the playground, and that it appeared evident the drama were not working well. It was unanimously agreed to nominate Mr F. G. Hawley for the extraordinary vacancy on the Board of Education. A letter was read from Mr D. Beese, asking leave of absence whilst attending to his Parliamentary duties, which was unanimously accorded, and the Secretary was instructed to notify Mr Reese of the same, and also that the Committee heartily congratulate him on his election to the House of Representatives. It waa decided that Mr N. K. , Bowden should sign cheques during Mr Eeese's absence. Messrs Bundle and Bowden consented to act as Visiting Committee to the Main School, and Mr Alfrey to the Side School. The quarterly summary of attendance was received, and also notice from the Board of its having paid .£273 2a 7d into the Bank, for salaries, &c. The balance in favor of the Committee was .£sl 13s lid, and accounts were passed for payment amounting to £22 16s 9<l. This being all the business the meeting adjourned at 10.10 p.m.
