The interest manifested on Tuesday j evening in the results of the Wakanui and. jgj Ashburton elections maintained a very M high pitch up to a late hour. Mr John Grisrg'e victory for Q Wafeanui is a very popular one. but th«~ 1 result is a great disappointment to Mr § Ivesa' friends, who were sanguine that the W late member for Wakanui would be re-- M elected. The majority for Mr Walker for 8 Ashburton is 17, instead of 18. Out of & ff total of 1759 names on the Wakanui roll m there were 877 votes recorded, being five 1| ; lees than one half.
