Althongh. not an elector or you- distriefc, I am personally —own to most of yon, having resided for twenty-seven years in the C_r_t_iurcb district. I ha—c had the pleasure of ■—_—ing: as a City Councillor and as Mayor of Christ' church, so that I am intimately acquainted with all local requirements; and farther, being ont of business now for many years, I have bad leisure to study the political questions of tbe day. I think the time has arrived when it behoves U3 to loot our present, position serlon_y in the face, and to endeavour, by promoting -wise legislation, to give an impetus to the Colony and restore public confidence. With this object in view I shall, if elected, he prepared to assist in forming a strong party to work under the leadership of Sir Julius Vogel, as I agree with his policy in the main. I have no confidence in the present Government, or the leaders of the late Opposition, being able to form a Ministry capable of rescuing t___country from its present state of depression. Does it. not appear inconsistent that, with the low rates of interest now prevail ing in the London market, the colony should have to pay such heavy interest ? How can we expect our farmers and our manufacturers to succeed, or employ labor with the hope of ultimate success or profitable return? And it is only by the restoration of public confidence that money will flow into the country for investment at low rates, and thereby find employment for tbe people. I shall take an early opportunity of addressing you in the various centres of the district, and giving yon my viewß on the differ—it questions now before the country. Thanking you for your very influential and nattering requisition, • I have the honor to be, Gentlemen, Tour obedient servant, 7-11876 J. G. RUDDENKLAU. TO THE ELECTORS OP ST. ALBANS. aTT to intimate that, XJT rather than spoil the chances of the Election, I have decided to WITHDRAW in favor of Mr Jebson. 7 _t 275S THORNHILL COOPER.
