Monday, Jttly 21. [Before E. Beetham, Esq., E.M.J Defaulting "Witness.—Henry Groth, a person under recognizances to appear as a witnees at the next sessions of the Supreme Court in a case of forgery and uttering against one Hamill, was charged with intending to leave the colony. He was ordered to find one surety in .£IOO, or two sureties of .£SO, for his appearance at the proper time. A Youthful B'veglab.—Chas. Haynee, aged about fourteen years, was charged with breaking into (twice) the rooms of Murray Aston, and stealing therefrom albuoLS and sheets of foreign postagestamps to the value of £15. The police stated that a quantity of the stolen pro- | perty had been found with the accused, and asked for a remand without the option of bail, as others seemed to be implicated. The remand was granted till July 25th. Miscellaneous. —H. Laraman pleaded guilty to having deserted his apprenticeship with E. Truman, bootmaker, of Sef ton. Hβ agreed to return to his work, and was allowed to go.—George Austin and John H. Ellis pleaded guilty to having obtained goods, viz., stores to the value of 16s 9d, by means of a forged order, from Elizabeth Carpenter. The boys had been digging potatoes for Albert Hawkins, and according to their story, being unable to find him at the moment, they wrote an order and signed it with his name. They had money coming to them at the time. The police having given them good characters up to the time of this offence, they were cautioned and discharged.— John McSeveney, charged with having failed to support hie illegitimate child, was i remanded till July 22nd.—Emma Beatty was charged with having permitted her licensed bouse, the Palace Hotel, to be the habitual resort of prostitutes. Mr Fisher appeared for the defendant. The defence was a denial of the allegations made by the police aa to transactions on the night of July 12th. A large number of witnesses for the defence were examined, who all spoke to the good conduct of the house, except as regarded one part of it, to which bad characters were admitted. The Beach considered the offence proved, and fined defendant. £2, with costs. Mr Fisher gave notice of appeal, pending which the endorsement of defendant's license was held over.—H. Bidder, F. Bidder, and C. Bidder were ordered to pay amongst them 15a per week towards the support of their father, J. F. Bidder.—James Westfield, in arrears; with his payments of 103 per week for the. maintenance of his. wife, was ordered to in future or go to gaoL '' -•' ■■'"■>■ : - ■ " •
