At the Lyttelton Borough Council meeting on Monday night there were present the Mayor (in the chair) and Crs. Chalmers, Macdonald, Stinson, and Dimond. The receipts were .£459 17s 10d. After a discussion, during which the Mayob ob- j served that, had the Borough Council been allowed to put in their own Biding at Officer's Point, it would have cost about JBIOO less than they were called upon to pay to the railway department for doing the work, the account, for £326 10s, was ordered to be paid. A petition from ratepayers in Jackson's road, complaining of the bad state of the thoroughfare, was received, and referred to the Works Committee. Accounts for £143 14s lid were passed. The Foreman of Works report was read. Cr. Chameebs suggested that a record be kept of the difficulties overcome at the sinking of the large new well at the Valley, the character of the ground, and the means used to put down the cylinders, as the information would be of use to oilier bodies. A report stating that the alterations to the Colonists' Hall for fire escapes would $ost £58 103, was received, but Hot acted upon at present. The conveyance of the piece of ground from the Council to Mr £. Lee was deferred until the one from Mr Lee to the Conncil be completed. The request of Mr H. Hawkins for an extension of the time for erecting a building at Officers' Point, was left in abeyance until next meeting. Leave of absence was granted to Cγ. Garforth. Cγ. Chalmkks gave notice of motion—"The borough offices be removed to the Town Hall/ , otherwise known as the Colonists' HalL
