LICENSING COMMITTEES.
WOOLSTON. The adjourned meeting of the Licensing Committee for the Woolston district took place yesterday, and was attended by Messrs Hopkins (Chairman), B. Brown, A. B. Park, and J. O'Neil. The adjourned application of Mrs George for a renewal of the license to the Heathcote Arms Hotel was considered. Mr Austin, who appeared for the applicant, understood that ten rooms were fully furnished. He held a letter from the solicitors of Messrs Vincent and Co., in which they stated that the objection to Mrs George having the license had been withdrawn; and, concerning furniture, they agreed to put in any that is necessary. The Chairman asked if Mr Austin was prepared to put in an application for a transfer. Mr Austin said he was not so instructed, but no doubt Mrs George would sign a transfer. After consulting with his client he said there was an agreement signed for the transfer. The agreement was in the hands of Messrs McConnel and Douglas, but if necessary he would undertake to produce it. The Chairman said that before granting the license the Committee wished an application for a transfer to be deposited. Mr Austin asked that the matter should be adjourned, to give him an opportunity of drawing up tho application. Mr Coughlan, in answer to the Chairman, said that he had verbally arranged to take over the hotel as soon as it went into the hands of Messrs Vincent and Co. Mr George said that as far as the property went he was made a party to the deed, and he would be happy to sign it. He had seen the deed at Messrs McConnel and Douglas' office. The Committee retired to consider the matter, and on returning the Chairman stated that the Committee had decided to adjourn for seven days, to give an opportunity for the production of the agreement between Messrs Vincent and Co., and in the meantime Mrs George would be required to deposit an application for a transfer of the license to some person of 1 whom the Committee might approve.
