Wright, Esq., aa Member for this district, I purpose offering myseU as a CANDIDATE for your suffrages, and will take the opportunity of addressing you at the various centres at as early a date as possible. Yours faithfully, 5-20 307 J. CATHCART WASON. TO THE ELECTORS OF AVON. GENTLEMEN,— Some time ago I intimated my intention of offering myself as a candidate for your suffrages to represent you in the General Assembly. I beg to state that I have not altered my intention, and wUlj lose no time in meeting you in some central part of the district, which due notice will be given, to lay before you my views on the various topics concerning our welfare. I also observe, by announcement in the Pbess of the 18th, that Mr RoUeston has decided not to come forward again this time, and that Mr Leonard Harper has consented to take his place. New, the little I know of Mr Harper I hold him in great esteem—a gentleman of a firm and noble mind, and a gentleman that would not betray the confidence reposed in him, ard would be a credit to the district be would represent, irrespective of his opinions and abilities as a statesman, which will have to be judged on merit. I would ask you not to pledge yourselves to support any candidate till hearing the views of all, and it would be a very narrow view to consider a man residing in your district the only qualification necessary for a statesman ; there could sot be any law or reform made, good or bad, but the whole country would feel the effects of it more or less. Yours truly, J. A. WILLIAMS. HaLaweU, June 20th, 1834. 6-21 1483
