The "Times" to-day states that the Potte has addressed a note to the English Government proposing the withdrawal of Briti— troops from Egypt, and replacing them by a Turkish force, or a mixed Turkish, English, French, Italian, and Spanish force. The " Pall Mall Gazette " to-day denies the truth of the statement recently current that a large force of Gal_s would be despatched from Abyssinia to relieve the Egyptian garrison at Kassala. The "Gazette" states t_at King Johannes, of Abyssinia, has only undertaken to facilitate the retreat of the garrison from that town, and not to send a force to its relief. Detachments of the Bojal Engineers are now under orders to proceed from Chatham to Egypt without delay. The actual destination of the force is not yet known. The Bank of England rate of discount is co be reduced to 2 per cent. Beceived Jane 21st, LIS am. LONDON, June 20. The latest advice from the Soudan states that the rebels have captured the Shia I garrisons. Kecelvsd June 2ifh, 7.45 p.m. LONDON, June 19. The official triad trip of the South Australian gunboat Protector took place today, when she attained a speed of 14 to 15 knots. Her guns were also tested, and found to work admirably. The Protector will probably sail for Australia on Tuesday, calling at Malta and A den en route. She carries a crew numbering sixty. There is little doubt that if France persists in her action in regard to the recidiviste question England will endorse the measures taken by the colonies for tie exclusion of the convicts from the Pacific. At meetings held in Boston and New York the most prominent "Republicans were opposed to Blame's nomination for the Presidency. O'Donovan Sossa's paper eulogises the candidature of Blame. Bcceired June 21st. 1.16 &._ LONDON, June 20. i The annual Colonial Conversazione has been attended with great success. Large numbers were present, including the i members of the Maori embassy. Five hundred Egyptian cavalry have been drafted off to proceed to Assouan, where the free navigation of the Nile is interrupted by the rebels.
