LIVE STOCK MARKETS.
The National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Limited, report on the live stock market for the week ending Friday, the 20th, as follows:—At Addington, on Wednesday, the 18th, the entry of sheep was again- a small one. only 4240 sheep being penned. The small entry may be accounted for to a certain extent by the inclement weathtr, but the low prices ruling at late markets causes all owners who can possibly do so to hold back tneir fat sheep, and that they will continue to do bo we do not doubt, unless values improve. At the opening of the market more animation was shown than has been the case for several weeks, but towards the cloae matters again settled down into [the same state of apathy that has of late been shown in the fat sheep market. We quote best crossbred wether mutton at about 2_d per lb. Inferior and ewe mutton, 2d to 2_d. One line of 6 and 8-tooth prime crossbred wethers made from 19s 3d for the top pen to ISs, crossbred wethers sold at from 14s 6d to 19s 3d, according to weight and quality ; mixed ewes made from 13s 9d to 16s; fat crossbred ewes,—3 to 15s. There were only two or three small lines of merino wethers to hand, and those sold at from 8s 6d to lis, equal to 2d to 2.d per lb. Small entry of stores, mostly of inferior descriptions, crossbred ewes, mixed ages, in lamb, made from 10s to 12s 3d; hoggets. 9s; 2-tooth crossbred «rethers, 12s; cull merino wethers, 2s. Cattle — 322 head yarded. The fat cattle market was well supplied, there being some excellent quality on offer. Business was very dull, and prices still rule low. We quote beef, 15s to 17s 6d per 1001b. Pig 3—247 penned. The market for pigs was a little weaker than it has been of late, but prices still continue to rule high.
