VALEDICTORY BANQUET.
Oβ Monday evening a dinner was given \iy the principal residents and tradesmen . in Kaiapoi to Mr Wm. Fraser, at WearIng's Kaiapoi Hotel, on the eve of his leaving for a visit to Old England. A wry handsome spread was provided by the ket, and after the removal of the cloth *. end the usual toasts had been disposed of, The Mayor, Mr Moore, proposed the health of the guest. He referred to that gentleman's energy in business, and the fact that he had manifested a large interest in the friendly and public institutions of the town. The hope that Mr Fraser would have a pleasant voyage and soon return was warmly endorsed by all pre«ent. Mr Foassb expressed his pleasure at the reception given that evening, which fully recompensed him for any time which he • lad given to public affaire. He trusted the improvements initiated by the present Town Council would be well advanced before his return. Other toasts followed, and a pleasant evening was concluded by the toaet of the "Host, Mr Wearing," whose catering left nothing to be desired.
