The annual meetin? o? the shareholders o£ the Union Sash and Door Company was held, Mr Joseph Howard (Chairman of Directors) presiding- Tiie report showed the amount available for appropriation to be .£28,214, of whv-h there was distributed ac an interim dividend at the 30th July last £20,705. It wae proposed to write off the loss through the destruction of the Mechanics' Bay factory, .£8651 4a Bd, giving a net balance available for dividend of .£12,054. The Directors recommend a dividend at the rate of 63 fully paid up 1 share for the six months ending the 31et December, 1883, J67759, and carrying for- j ward to the current year JE4265. The Chaiemav, on moving the adoption of the report, said the fire at Mechanics' Bay in Jbly last caused a loss of .£16,951, of which £8651 fell on the Company. The insurances were .£B3OO. Mr G. S. KiesLrKQ seconded the motion; Mr Boakdman moved, as an amendment —" That the dividend be at the rate of 93 per folly paid up share for six months ending the 31et December, 1883." Major Tisdall seconded the amendment. A discussion ensued, in the course of which the Chairman and Mr Kissling gave their assurance that the Directors intetdtd to acquire no farther property. The report and balance-sheet were adopted.
