U 6 1.15 New Plymouth ... 14 6 1.62 Napier ... 20 13 2.10 Wanganni ... 22 5 0.99 Nelson ... 16 6 0.84 Sydenham ... 44 6 0.65 Lyttelton ... 15 2 0.45 Tunaru ... 15 1 024 Oamaru - 28 4 063 Hokitika ... 14 5 1.80 Caversham ... 11 7 1.66 Invercargffl ... 17 2 0.40 Total .. 528 1 175 j — The total number of births in the above boroughs amounted to 528, as against' 413 ia "December, showing ah increase of 116. The deaths in January were 176, being an increase of 27 on the number, for December. Of the above deaths, the males were 103, females 72; 75 of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 42.86 per cent, of the whole number, 61 of these were of children under 1 year of age.
