Received February 27th, 1 p.m. LONDON, February 26. | The Right Hon. Sir H. B.W. Brand, ex-Speaker, House of Commons, has been raised to the peerage under the title of Viscount Hampden. A consignment of frozen mutton (6548 carcases),ex steamship Iberia,from Sydney, has been examined and found in good condition. Received February 27th, 2.40 p.m. LONDON, February 26 (Evening). In the House of Commons to-day, Mr A. W. Peel, Liberal M.P. for Warwick, was elected Speaker unopposed. A credit for half a million sterling, to cover the expenses of the British expedition to Soudan, is shortly to be asked for by the Government in the House of Commons. No clue to the perpetrators of the explosion which occurred last night at the Victoria Railway Station has yet been discovered. The police have in their possession, however, the bag which was burst open by the explosion of dynamite, and which was found- in the wrecked cloakroom. Received February 28th, 1.5 a.m. LONDON, February 25. Arrived —Ship Otaki, from Auckland (November 24th). Lord Carlingford's Bill for the exclusion from places where disease is believed to exist was passed by the House of Lords last night. Received February 28th, 1.5 a.m. CAIRO, February 26. A detachment of 1000 British troops occupied a fort near Trinkitat. The enemy, who was in the neighborhood, fled. It is expected a. battle will be fought on Thursday at El Teb, where the rebels are strongly poated. Received February 28th, 1.5 a.m. NEW YORK, February 26. The first direct cargo of Australian wool arrived, at Boston to-day. The New Zealand Shipping Company has received the following cablegram:— «' LONDON, February 25. " British King has arrived; all weU, at Plymouth. Otaki has arrived ; all well." [SFECIAI, TO PBESS ASSOCIATION.] Received February 27th, 8 p.m. LONDON, February 26. The mutton by the a.s. Iberia is realising 5Jd. per lb. Mr Gladstone has submitted the name of a new Governor for Victoria to Lord Derby for approval. Received February 27th, 10.30 p.m. LONDON, February 27. Two more garrisons in the Southern Soudan have been captured by the rebels. Two regiments of Egyptian troops have been ordered to proceed to Assouan. The fidelity of the native garrison in Cairo is distrusted.
