ROAD BOARDS.
AVON.
A meeting of this Board was held on Wednesday, the 19th, when all the members were present. Tenders for the various works were opened, when that of Messrs Porter and MiUer was accepted for cutting the Preston's road drain 5 that of Mr John Reeve for forming the Office road; and that of —c J. Vieteh for forming the roads on section 804. The Clerk waa directed to write to the railway authorities requesting that shingle should be put to the approaches to the railway crossings on Beaiey'a and Belfast roads. He waa further directed to erect a .protective fence on the south Bide of Preston's road. The foUowing correspondence was received:—From the Property Tax Commissioner relative to the rating of Crown lands. From the Inspector of Pc-ce re stray cattle. From Mr A. E. Lutton, requesting permission to remove soU from_Gr_us ey*s road to repair Guinness' road. From Mr William Craddock, requesting permission to' erect a temporary fence on the eastern side of the Canal Reserve. Granted, subject to removal when required. Proposed by Mr PhUpott—"That clause 166 of the Road Boards Act, 1882, be adopted by the Board, and that in future no road be aUowed to be laid off less than one chain in width." Seconded by Mr Wray, and carried. A letter was received requesting that the rates of a widow be remitted. Granted. The Clerk was directed to invite tenders for a supply of shingle on the various roads; to be received till 10 a.m. on Saturday, the 29th inst. Accounts amounting to -34 16s 6d were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
