It appeared that on Friday morning Martin's father met his boy on the street and found his pockets bulging out with coppers. The boy said that Taylor had found a bag of money and had divided with him. Taylor was not overhauled until night-time, and he gave a similar account of himself. This morning, however, Mr Taylor seeing a paragraph in a newspaper, induced his son to confess. It then turned out that the boys had broken a pane of glass and opened the schoolroom window. The debris of a tea meeting was in the room, and they entered in search of buns, but coming across six or seven of the contribution boxes belonging to scholars, they rifled them of their contents, which were principally coppers and small pieces of silver. They afterwards bought purses to put the money in. Their parents immediately on learning the true state of affairs, took the boys to the police, and they were brought before the magistrates forthwith. The Bench, after commending the parents, ordered convictions to be entered against the boys, and on their fathers undertaking to whip them soundly, they were discharged

They were found travelling together, and the luggage they had with them was alleged to be the property of her husband. M'Millan was remanded till Monday next for the production of the warrant.
