MEETING AT CUST.
A pubUc meeting of ratepayers of the Cost _V_ml Board district was held at the Road Board offioe on Monday, September 17th,' to consider the water question at Benneta. : There were about sixty ratepayers present Mr G. P. Chapman (chairman of the Board) in the chair. The Chaxbman explained to the meeting that it was not the intention of the Board to bring any more water down the Oxford road than come out of the gravel pit, but as long as the water comes into the gravel pit and from thence on to the Oxford rood, he would hold to tiie resolution passed by the Board on the 6th of August, untU he could see a better plan, and a feasable one, laid before him. Mr J. D. Dickinson proposed ;-r- "That in the opinion of this meeting the present Board does not possess the confidence of the ratepayers.*' Seconded by Mr Bn>i>_B. Mr ' Wolff proposed as an amendment— " That the Board has the confidence of the ratepayers." Seconded by Mr Moderate. The amendment was put, only five voting for it The resolution was carried; whereupon the Board resigned, and the Chairman left the chair. Mr William Anderson was then voted to the choir. After a long discussion on the water question, Mr Mxßxnrra proposed— f 'That it be an instruction to the incoming Board to take the necessary steps, at its eariiest convenience to divert the water -com*the Oxford rood to its original course, in accordance with the engineer's plans and the terms of Mr Joynf 8 letter." Seconded by Mr Toixatt. Mr Co wens proposed as on amendment— " That no action be token in the matter of turning the water bock into its original ! course?* Seconded by Mr Woiro. The I amendment was pat to the meeting, five ! voting for it. The resolution was then put and earned.
