These Sheep are well grown, and have been derived from the best English blood, the primary object of the breeder being to produce the weightiest fleece of fine lustrous wool, and uniformity in the flock, which is one of the tests of pure breeding. These Sheep competed at the principal shows in this island during the past season, with the following results: —At Timaru they took six first prizes, seven seconds, four highly commended, champion for best ram and the champion cup. At Christchurch, with only fourteen sheep, they took five first prizes, three seconds, two thirds, one very highly commended, one highly commended, with silver medals for best ram and ewe. At Dunedin, three first prizes, three second, one third, and champion for the best ewe. At Oamaru, five first prizes, eight second, four third, the gold medal for best ram, and the twenty guinea cup. In reference to these Sheep, we would direct the especial attention of Breeders to the results obtained in England, showing the great superiority of Hampshires for producing Lambs to arrive at early maturity as compared with other breeds. ■ Hampshire lambs, from 8 to 10 months, 21 lambs averaged 1921b each. Hampshire crossbred, as same age, 24 lambs averaged 1831b each. Lincolnshire lambs stand next; 15 lambs averaged 1771b each. Cotswolds, 9 lambs averaged 1471b each. Southdown, 18 lambs averaged 1411b each. Leicesters, 9 lambs averaged 1271b each. The heaviest pen of Hampshires actually averaged 2151b each, a most extraordinary heavy average. Account H.
