The Hamilton murder case was commenced in the Supreme Court to-day, Messrs Hesketh and Williamson, Crown prosecutors, prosecuted, while Mr Earll appeared for Priestly and Mr Cooper for Mr Hamilton. The Court was crammed to suffocation. Many of the jury were challenged. The defences of the prisoners will be separate. The medical evidence lasted all day. The only new evidence was that Dr. Philson, coroner, at the inquest having stated that from his medical experience it was possible for Hamilton to have got his skull ! fractured by falling against the bedstead, Dr. Goldeboro, in his evidence, said he failed to see on what Dr. Philson based his opinion, as he had never seen the skull. DUNEDIN. The Papakaio murder case was begun to-day. Beattie, the prisoner, was tried three months ago for the murder of Sarah Beattie, or Adams, and the jury being unable to agree, a fresh trial was ordered. Mr O'Meagher, of Oamaru, is for the defence, and, on behalf of the prisoner, challenged eleven jurors. The Crown challenged one. The case is likely to occupy four days.
